The Damned
Just done two nights at Eventim Apollo with their original line up of Brian James, Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible and Rat Scabies.

Anyone go?

Sad to see Brain James being helped off stage in some of the youtube footage, and a nice touch by Dave Vanian to make the night of a stage invader in the video below.

Re: The Damned
Lemmy also filled in on bass with them for a few gigs and demos when they got back together in 1978 but they played as The Doomed due to a record company dispute.

£70/80 is expensive? Not these days. Springsteen prices are ridiculous, and not even fixed prices...they've likened it to an airline ticket that gets more expensive, the more popular it gets!

Re: The Damned
Back on subject with The Damned I read recently that despite the group liking Dave Vanian's vampie-chic look he still had to audition as they also wanted Sid Vicious as front man. Vanian got the gig as Vicious didn't turn up.

Chrissie Hynde was also in an earky incarnation of The Damned.

Got to see the Sex Pistols and The Specials at Brixton Academy 2007. I'd sooner go and see some old codgers giving it one last go to top up the pension fund than most of the turgid rubbish about today. Mind you I quite like Wet Leg's short catchy guitar based tunes.

Changing the subject a bit, I paid over a ton each to see Simple Minds at our local venue, Audley End this august, mainly because I still like them and I saw them in Milton Keynes in the 80s (but was quite pissed and it chucked it down with rain).

Lovely hot evening, great beer and food trucks at reasonable prices and they were superb, even better than I remember from the 80s, also a good few 80s warm up acts and really good fun.

Heard A Night Of A Thousand Vampires was very good and will buy the DVD which came out this week.

Would have loved to have seen the original line up on this reunion. Despie stating they've buried their differences and made up they still seem as chaotic and unorganised as that Old Grey Whistle Test appearance in 1977.

Re: The Damned
I loved the Damned but decided to give this a miss.
The current line-up is still fantastic live and thought this might be a bit of a disappointmentdepite getting the old band back together.
I did see last year's Halloween extravaganza and that was superb. I have met Captian Sensisble (he came to a gig I played as one of his friends was in tbe band that supported us) and he is a lovely bloke. He has a passion for psychedelic music and we had a good chat with before and after the gig.
